Context
The product
Topography Health helped community physicians run clinical trials — work normally concentrated in academic centers, with heavyweight processes small practices cannot absorb.
Challenge
The problem worth solving
Running a trial means coordinating investigators, coordinators, and sponsors around protocols, patients, and documentation. Spread across email and spreadsheets, that coordination limited how many practices could participate.
Constraints
What the engineering had to respect
- Clinical research workflows carry strict documentation and auditability expectations
- Physician-facing tools had to fit into clinic days measured in minutes, not hours
- Sponsors, coordinators, and investigators each needed a different, permission-scoped view of the same trial
Contribution
What LaunchStacks did
LaunchStacks built the investigator-facing platform — the operational workspace where practices manage trial participation, patients, and study tasks.
Solution
What shipped
- A shared workspace giving investigators, coordinators, and sponsors one view of each study
- Role-scoped permissions so each party sees exactly what their role requires
- Structured workflows for study tasks and documentation, replacing spreadsheet tracking
- Operational reporting on enrollment and study progress
Architecture
How it was built
- React front end over a Python / FastAPI service layer
- PostgreSQL data model built around studies, sites, roles, and auditable events
- AWS infrastructure with environment separation for clinical data
